WELCOME
What a challenge 2011 was, not only for the city of Christchurch but the flower show as well! When the earthquake struck on 22February it became apparent - very quickly - that the show could not progress. This was extremely disappointing to all those exhibitors who had signed up and particularly those who had actually started creating their gardens. It was also disappointing for us as Event Managers which is why we are even more passionate about the 2012 show! As always the horticultural aspect of the show is of huge importance and the more gardens, floral art and horticultural exhibits we can attract the better. We want this to be the biggest and best show yet, a real tribute to the Garden City and a fantastic opportunity to inspire its residents.
This Horticultural Exhibitor Guide is designed to provide you with information required to make a decision on exhibiting. There are a number of different exhibit categories (please note that if you are interested in retail there is a separate, specific guide) and the information provided should best direct you to the appropriate category for you to enter. However, please do feel free to contact me directly if you are still unsure or would like advise. Also included are the judging criteria and the other rules and regulations of being part of the show. And at the rear is an application form and map of the 2010 show which can be used as a guideline for the 2012 layout. Also detailed is information on the regular exhibitor evenings that are designed to help and mentor you through the exhibiting process.
Obviously planning for the 2012 show is moving ahead at pace. However, there is still some information not available at this time relative to the recovery of Christchurch city so please be aware that there may be some changes and updates to this document. We will keep you regularly updated should this occur.
Please do take the time to read this document thoroughly, and regularly. You will find that many of your queries are answered within it. If however you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to contact me.
I encourage you to be a part of the show. There is a category for all to enter from students, to floral and garden clubs, landscape architects and designers, contractors, nurseries and many more.
I look forward to receiving your applications and wish you every success for the 2012 show.
Kind Regards,
Kate Hillier
