National Concerto Competition

The National Concerto Competition has been a feature of the music scene for 43 years. It continues to attract talented musicians under 25 from throughout New Zealand to the competition.

The Concerto caters for pianists in one year and orchestral instrumentalists in the alternate year. Instrumentalists are set to compete in 2010.
The Christchurch Civic Music Council organises the National Concerto Competition to support our next generation of musical talent and continues to work to maintain its nationwide success.

Many of the winners of the Concerto have gone onto distinguished careers including Ashley Brown, Hamish McKeich and Natalia Lomienko.
The competition culminates with a finals performance with the CSO, conducted by Sir William Southgate in the Christchurch Town Hall on March 13 2010
