Traditionally one of the favourite marquees at Ellerslie the Starlight Marquee is unique to flower shows and is renowned for its theatrical displays and striking lighting, this year is no exception with exhibits from both National and International Gold Medal winners. The designers of these gardens have let their imagination run riot and to fantastic effect! The gardens on display are of a fantasy nature demonstrating stunning lighting effects in a non-traditional garden method.
The UV blocked marquee is lined with black silks designed to demonstrate lighting effects or ‘gardens after dark’.

“The Last Australian Garden” explores the harsh and ravaged Australian environment through a sculptural use of rural farming materials and rugged natural planting which contrast against the pure, delicate forms of exotic garden plants. The scene is representative of environmental disruption – of how people have lived in harmony with this planet and then lost their understanding of nature.

Gold medal and supreme lighting design winner Dan Rutherford joins forces with international lighting expert Andrew Frazer, who has taken time out from major international theme park exhibits, to create an exceptional Starlight Marquee garden together. Weaving together a story, a garden, lighting and images, it stands out as something quite new. This is a very different exhibition garden experience, not to be missed.
